Philanthropy

At the Gamma Phi Beta Convention in 2002, representatives voted to collaborate with Campfire USA to further Gamma Phi Beta's efforts to develop caring, confident women, and future leaders. Each year during formal recruitment our chapter has guests complete a small project to donate to a local Campfire USA program. In Fall 2008, Beta Delta sisters and potential members made first aid kits to donate to the organization. We also hold a big philanthropy project each year to raise money to donate to Campfire USA. The project is called the "Crescent Classic" which is an International Gamma Phi Beta philanthropy.

Camp Fire USA is one of the nation's leading not-for-profit youth development organizations, currently serving nearly 750,000 children and youth annually. Camp Fire USA, with national headquarters in Kansas City, MO., provides all-inclusive, coeducational programs in hundreds of communities across the United States. Founded in 1910, Camp Fire USA's outcome-based programs include youth leadership, self-reliance, after school groups, camping and environmental education and child care.

Serving youth from birth to 21, Camp Fire USA helps boys and girls learn - and play - side by side in comfortable, informal settings. Coed programs allow parents to consolidate schedules for both their daughters and sons.

As the first nonsectarian, interracial organization for girls in the United States, Camp Fire USA takes pride in its long-standing commitment to providing fun programs and services to all children and families in America. We are inclusive, open to every person in the communities we serve, welcoming children, youth and adults regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation or other aspect of diversity. Camp Fire USA's programs are designed and implemented to reduce sex-role, racial and cultural stereotypes and to foster positive intercultural relationships.

Greek Week

Greek Week is the largest philanthropy event for the Greek community at Michigan State University. Every spring, fraternities and sororities team up to compete against each other for the title of number one! The events that take place throughout the week are a speaker, Relay for Life, Special Olympics, Field Day, Battle of the Bands, MTV Night, Penny Wars, and Songfest.

Gamma Phi Beta has won the overall competition in 2001, 2002, and most recently in 2008. In 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Gamma Phi Beta raised the most money for Relay For Life, the main focus of Greek Week! In 2010, our chapter raised $35,000 for the American Cancer Society!
